Emma set up her own practice in 2004 and specialises in individual, bespoke designs for both contemporary and traditional buildings. She has been working with green oak frames since 2000, designing garden rooms, extensions and barns as well as new houses.

She is committed to looking at the most sustainable yet affordable alternatives for new build and existing buildings, in order to provide the most suitable solution for each individual project, whilst also making best use of the site location, views and daylight.

All of Emma’s designs are hand-drawn in pencil at the planning stage before being developed on computer for the working drawing stage of the project.

Emma tailors her service to the client’s needs, whether the client requires a full architectural service from inception through to completion on site, or merely gaining planning approval.

In July 2009 Emma gained a Distinction in a Post Graduate Diploma in Architectural Conservation at the University of Plymouth. The course included: the legislative framework related to architectural conservation; the attitudes and philosophies of conservation; the evaluation of historic buildings; the techniques for care, repair and retrofitting of historic buildings and the care and repair of cob buildings. She is now working towards her professional accreditation for membership of the IHBC (Institute of Historic Building Conservation) and is currently studying for an MA in Architecture Conservation.

Customers’ comments

“Emma was so in tune with the house and site. There were many elements that we didn’t appreciate until we moved in and realised what a special house she’d helped us create. (L.B.)”From an article featured in ‘BUILD IT’ magazine (Readers’ Homes)

“We were lucky because we worked closely with (Emma) and she guided us. We had so little experience we had to trust her judgement – it was an exchange of ideas. We spoke to Emma about the look we were after… we wanted to get a timber frame in somewhere and liked the appearance of green oak. Our (oak-framed) open-plan kitchen and living area has such wonderful light. (S.K.)”From an article featured in ‘GOOD HOMES’ magazine (House of the Month)

“Emma has helped transform what was a lovely but rather rundown grade 2 listed medieval farmhouse with an ugly collection of 20th century ‘add-ons’ into a beautiful home. The oak-framed extension is stunning. The attention to detail is exceptional, the character of the house has not only been preserved but enhanced. The house was recently featured on the BBC’s television programme “Britain’s Empty Homes”. I asked Emma to appear on the episode alongside me because I firmly believed she deserved to have her work acknowledged. (G.C.)”From an article featured in ‘GOOD HOMES’ magazine (House of the Month)
