THEIR BACKGROUND
Frederieke van Ellen and Eilir Sheryn set up their practice in 2006, having spent many years cutting their architectural teeth in Holland, Malaysia and London, working for high profile architects.

Having settled in Devon, they sensed a real demand for high quality, design lead housing and endeavour to provide the finest architectural service within the area, offering a bespoke and site specific design service to each of their clients.

They are committed to design excellence and complete customer satisfaction and have a dedicated team of architects and technicians. They will undertake projects ranging from small house extensions to multi million pound developments across the South West.

THEIR ETHOS
Van Ellen + Sheryn believe that the resurgence of timber framed or oak post and beam construction in the domestic residential sector is no coincidence. The more discerning clientele demand an architectural approach that is more respectful of the natural environment. Timber framed construction is not only a sound environmentally responsible approach, but also creates an architectural style that has a synergy with the world it sits within. Wedded to modern construction methods and a well-insulated building envelope, oak post and beam construction is the perfect construction methodology for the 21st Century.

  • Their architectural approach aims to blend progressive, contemporary design with environmentally responsible construction practices, using timber framed construction.  Each design is bespoke and site specific, tailor made to the client’s requirements.
  • Their portfolio of work ranges from the very small to large commercial developments. They treat each commission with the same verve and enthusiasm.
  • They believe an integral part of the design process is to undertake a complete and thorough design exercise at the start of each project. Van Ellen + Sheryn build three dimensional computer models for each of their projects. This exercise, although time consuming, allows them to communicate the design more readily with their clients. Too often flat, two dimensional drawings can be easily misread and lead to a misunderstanding of the ‘complete’ design.
  • They will not just ‘knock up’ a design. If a potential client has no regard for the design process or end result, they would rather not be involved in the project.
  • Their team has a strong design and technical background. We are all professionally qualified and are an RIBA Chartered practice, which is the benchmark of achievement, ability and professionalism within the industry. They have recently won a series of local and national awards.
  • In summary they endeavor to deliver value and enjoyment from each of their commissions, with an emphasis on the highest design quality, whilst operating within an environmentally responsible agenda
