Established more than 70 years ago, Clague is an award-winning practice of architects, interior and urban designers and specialises in listed, historic and modern oak timber-framed buildings.

The practice is led by seven equity partners with a support team of more than fifty professionals. Clague’s extensive experience in oak post and beam construction has been gained from designing an extremely wide variety of projects of differing type, scale and complexity throughout the UK. The practice prides itself on having a strong team-based approach to working with clients, going that extra mile to fully understand their needs, wants and aspirations for the building project in hand. Clague is commercially focussed and able to provide excellent cost-managed design solutions from initial feasibility studies all the way through detailed planning submissions and on to completion on site.

Clague starts all of its commissions with a complete analysis of the client’s brief and look in depth at the proposed site and any constraints it may have. This approach has resulted in national recognition of Clague’s designs, with over thirty-five award wins in the last eight years. CABE, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, cites three of Clague’s projects, all of which have won Building for Life gold awards.

The practice aspires to design high quality, environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings. Combining these skills with the practice’s special knowledge of working with historic buildings means that Clague is ideally placed to bring buildings back to life and ready to face the challenges of life in the 21st century.
