As a Chartered Architect and RIBA member, Julian Owen Associates has a particular interest in assisting self-builders and people who build their own oak framed homes. Julian Owen has written a book on modern timber-frame construction.

Julian Owen Associates is a specialist in home alterations, self builds and all other types of one-off houses. The practice is very experienced in all types of domestic project and has helped many hundreds of families build, alter or refurbish their homes. For many of its clients it is their first contact with the construction industry and they have benefited from the ability of the practice to demystify the process.

Julian Owen Associates is a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Chartered Practice and a member of the ASBA Architects network. Apart from one-off oak frame houses, the practice’s work includes housing developments as well as commercial buildings, listed buildings and conservation areas. The range of services includes site appraisals, feasibility studies, planning and building regulations applications, tender packages, and the selection and management of builders. The practice is based mainly in the Midlands but has also completed projects in East Sussex, Bristol, Bath, Leeds, Bradford and Birmingham.

Julian Owen has written two books for the RIBA, ‘Self Build’ and ‘Home Extension Design’, as well as ‘The Complete Guide to Kit and Modern Timber Frame Homes’ for Crowood Press. He is an expert advisor to the Homebuilding and Renovating Shows and has presented many seminars explaining the design and construction process to the general public.
