Nicholas Jacob Architects is a RIBA Chartered Practice based in Suffolk, but working throughout Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire. The emphasis of the practice’s work is of historic buildings, and creative conservation, but its work does extend into new individual design including sustainable construction; all of which can embrace timber frame technology.

Nicholas Jacob Architects is a small highly motivated team capable of producing designs which balance the conflicting requirements of brief, location, budget and planning restrictions, often working within tight restraints and in an historical context. Using a key philosophy, which involves working in a close partnership with enthusiastic clients, skilled craftspeople, structural and environmental consultants, Nicholas Jacob Architects believes in the importance of both the seen and the unseen detail. The practice’s aim is to resolve these issues and produce the highest standards of design, which are informed by the principles of sustainable design.

Nicholas Jacob Architects’ work is not restricted to East Anglia; the practice undertakes work throughout the UK. The practice’s work covers all aspect of architecture, having experience in both commercial projects and individual clients including one-off houses.  The practice also has experience of working in the ecclesiastical sector which provides a good foundation for building conservation; the practice also undertakes a significant number of projects where consolation with English Heritage, SPAB and the Local Authority Conservation Officer is a prerequisite of the early design process.

Nicholas Jacob Architects’ knowledge of timber frames is based on experience from the conservation field and having opportunities to study historic frames. This allows the practice to develop a language of design in sympathy with the existing vernacular, where appropriate, but this does not limit the capabilities of using frame technology in a modern way, particularly as many of the basic methods are still used.
