Oak-frame architect profile Annie Kenyon Architects
AKA is an award-winning practice based in rural Aberdeenshire. The practice carries out design-led new build and conservation projects with a strong emphasis on sustainability. AKA aspires to include post and beam frames in its projects.

AKA was established by Annie Kenyon and is based in rural Aberdeenshire. The practice carries out design-led conservation, restoration, conversion and new build projects with a strong emphasis on sustainability.
The practice endeavours to use locally sourced traditional and salvaged materials whenever possible and promotes the use of renewable energy systems in both new build and restoration projects. Existing redundant rural architecture can be put to re-use for residential or commercial purposes through sensitive conversion based on a sound understanding of traditional materials and techniques and the potential of new interventions. AKA is also currently involved in a number of new build projects in which the practice aspires to go above and beyond standard requirements to provide low energy, unique dwellings, with unique frames as part of the main principle behind the design/concept.
AKA comprises two architects, four architectural assistants, a graphic designer, an administrator, a researcher, an events organiser and a renewable energy consultant. The practice’s website can be visited at: www.akenyonarchitects.com.
Customers’ comments
“AKA took our brief, produced some excellent options and together we developed what we believe is an outstanding build. It includes local materials and incorporates underfloor heating powered from a ground source heat pump to give an environmentally acceptable dimension.”
