He has also worked extensively with a variety of different client bodies including private, public and charity clients.

Bruce has also been heavily involved developing detailed design briefs with educationalists, care providers and occupational therapists on a number of unique community care projects.

His work also includes innovative residential developments including Phase F of the Crown Street regeneration project, small sustainable rural housing developments, a primary school for children with moderate learning difficulties and a Turning Point rehabilitation unit in Glasgow.

He has a keen interest in sustainable issues and in the deployment of passive systems to create healthy, zero-carbon environments for both living and working.

He is a member of the Scottish Ecological Design Association and an approved Energy Certificate Certifier.

Kraft’s approach relies on doing thorough research, project brief analysis, engaging in open discussion and a constructive dialogue with its clients, consultants, specialist fabricators and constructors to achieve practical and sustainable solutions that improve people’s lives.

Whether through ecological design, public consultation or technical specification of its projects, Kraft always seeks to innovate by producing cutting-edge solutions which are inherently buildable, accessible, practical and sustainable. Kraft believes that the process of design is an integrated one and should involve the widest range of people at all levels, ranging from initial consultations through to an appropriately considered material specification.

Kraft Architecture seeks consensus by explaining, discussing and presenting the best possible options for any given context and marrying these aspirations within the client’s budgetary constraints.

Kraft Architecture embraces sustainability in its broadest terms by reducing energy consumption and waste and in providing environments that are adaptable through the lifetime of the building and the people who will use it.

Kraft’s multi-disciplinary approach ensures that its design solutions are thoroughly researched and coordinated with clients’ requirements, aspirations and budgets.

The practice aims to work closely with its clients to understand their needs and ambitions, offering solutions that are creative and practical whilst endeavouring to clearly demonstrate cost benefits over the building’s lifetime.

Ongoing research and continuing professional development are key components in the work that Kraft Architecture undertakes.

Kraft maintains strong and ongoing affiliations through a series of part-time teaching posts and active participation in formal practice-based research work with the following institutions:

The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, Aberdeen

Strathclyde University, Glasgow

University of Northumbria, Newcastle
