James Denholm formed the practice in 1988, pioneering energy efficient timber frame design throughout Scotland from its base in Comrie, Perthshire.

Expertise in one-off private housing within the practice has developed through the many domestic projects undertaken. Great emphasis is placed on trying to find the ideal solution for a client’s needs, whilst being aware of financial considerations and opportunities.

Working in areas of outstanding natural beauty amongst mountains, lochs and rivers has inspired designs that respond organically to their natural setting, optimising views, topography, orientation and materials to create buildings that truly fit into their rural landscape.

Over the years, the practice has also developed expertise in a broad range of building projects including hotels, a whole number of projects at Crieff Hydro, self-catering and shared ownership holiday accommodation, swimming pools, restaurants and bars, offices, golf clubhouses and housing association work alongside a variety of one-off projects such as the Nelson Stand for Perth Race Course and a medical centre.

The James Denholm Partnership is always keen to get involved in challenging and interesting projects that require creative and sensitive solutions.
