The role of an architect is to help make people’s dreams become a reality. By bringing experience and expertise to a project, and liaising with contractors, Lawrie seeks to contribute aesthetically and practically to a project whilst driving towards an economic and sustainable solution.

He will bring design and imagination to an oak-frame home or extension, whether the need is for a traditional design (perhaps to tie in with an existing building or neighbourhood) or something more contemporary, combining an oak frame with modern materials such as glass and steel.
Lawrie aims to provide as much support as possible, guiding clients through what can be a daunting and complex process. The client’s ideas very much lead the project – whether the desire is tradition or innovation, boldness or understatement.

At the outset Lawrie will meet with the client, to understand their needs, explain different levels of architectural service and talk through the project. A written fee quote will follow, explaining the various stages of the design process, with associated professional involvement, confirming detailed and clear fee information.
Lawrie can provide various levels of service as required. That may be to prepare drawing information and apply for necessary local authority consents only. Alternatively he can provide a comprehensive service through to completion of the development including design, drawings, local authority consents, obtaining contractors quotations and liaising between all parties through to completion.

Importantly, Lawrie understands the need to deliver value for money and can help with advice on design elements which, if not correctly planned, can increase cost without providing substantial benefits, such as making the most efficient use of space, selecting the right materials and finishes, making the home energy efficient and ensuring that it will enjoy low running/maintenance costs.
He can also help with an increasingly important part of building design – ensuring that the oak-frame home is as ecologically sound as possible. An understanding of eco/sustainable building methods enables Lawrie to provide advice on energy conservation. Where necessary he will work closely with specialist contractors and consultants for particular aspects of a design to ensure the latest approaches and knowledge are understood in what is a rapidly evolving field.
